Design in the right order
Most box design fails because it happens in the wrong order: artwork first, structure last. The order that works is product first, structure second, board third, artwork last. A beautiful panel on a structure that collapses in transit is a reprinted run; a plain box that protects perfectly is a reorder.
The four layers
- Structure — how it folds, closes and opens; decided by the fulfilment process as much as the product
- Board — flute or paperboard matched to weight, fragility and print needs
- Print — digital for short runs, offset for volume, flexo for shippers
- Finish — lamination, foil, spot UV and embossing added where they earn their cost
The dieline is the contract
A dieline is the flat template showing every cut, fold and glue tab. Every serious box design starts from one — it is where bleed, safe zones and panel breaks are decided. We provide a free dieline for your exact size and style with every quote, and revisions are free until the layout is right. Designing artwork before the dieline exists is the most common cause of a second print run.
