What flute actually does

Corrugated board is a fluted core glued between two liners. The flute profile decides whether you get a smooth print surface, crush resistance, or stacking strength — and you usually trade one for another. Specifying flute by name instead of "a corrugated box" is the single biggest lever on damage rate.

The flute profiles, compared

  • E-flute — thin, smooth print surface, light shipping and mailers
  • B-flute — thicker, higher crush resistance, medium loads
  • C-flute — stacking strength for heavier freight
  • Double-wall (B+C) — heavy and fragile freight
  • Triple-wall — products over 65 lb

A simple rule of thumb

If the box ships on its own through a parcel carrier and branding matters, start with E-flute. If it carries weight or stacks on a pallet, move to B or C. If it holds something fragile and heavy, go double-wall. Tell us your product weight and carrier and we specify the flute for you.
