Start from the product, not the aesthetic
The most common cosmetic packaging mistake is starting from a mood board. Start from the bottle: its dimensions, weight, how it is dispensed, and what the compliance panel must legally carry. The aesthetic is designed into the space those facts leave — not painted over them. A box that ignores the bottle is a reprint.
The practical path
- Measure the primary packaging precisely — bottle, jar or tube with cap on
- List the mandatory panels: INCI, net content, batch, warnings if any
- Pick the format: tuck carton, lid-and-base or sleeve
- Get a free dieline for that exact size and format
- Design inside the dieline — bleed, safe zones, CMYK, outlined fonts
- Choose one hero finish — soft-touch, foil or spot UV — not all three
- Approve the digital proof; order a printed sample for a launch if unsure
Where help is free
Dielines, print-checking and artwork revisions are free parts of our quote process — and we can build artwork from your logo and brand assets at no charge. The paid decisions are board, print coverage and finishing; the engineering is included. Most indie brands need that division: professional structure, in-house aesthetics.
