What double-wall is

Double-wall corrugated glues two fluted layers between three liners — usually B and C flute together. The result is a board with roughly double the edge-crush strength of single-wall, at the cost of thickness, weight and a coarser print surface. It is a freight decision, not a branding one.

When double-wall earns its cost

  • Packed weights above roughly 40–65 lb per box
  • Fragile-and-heavy combinations: ceramics, machinery, glass
  • Stacking in warehouses or on pallets several layers high
  • Long or multi-leg freight with transfers and drops
  • Products where a single damage event costs more than the board upgrade

When it does not

For parcel-weight eCommerce, single-wall E or B flute with a fitted insert beats double-wall without one — an insert that stops the product moving does more for damage rates than a thicker wall. Double-wall also prints coarser and costs more per unit and to ship. We quote both options with the trade-offs stated so you pay for strength where it protects, not everywhere.
