Two formats, two priorities
A mailer box is a one-piece self-locking corrugated box for branded parcels where unboxing matters. A shipping box is a taped corrugated carton rated by ECT or burst strength for heavier freight where protection is the priority. Choosing the wrong one means overpaying or under-protecting.
Key differences
- Construction: mailer is one-piece self-locking; shipper is a taped RSC
- Strength: shipper is rated by ECT/burst for heavier loads
- Print: mailer favours digital edge-to-edge; shipper favours flexo or litho-lam
- Assembly: mailer needs no tape; shipper needs taping at pack-out
- Cost: shipper is cheaper per unit; mailer removes tape and void fill
Which should you choose?
Choose a mailer for single parcels under roughly 30 lb where branding and unboxing matter — subscriptions, DTC, beauty, apparel. Choose a shipping box for heavier, fragile or multi-item freight. Many brands use both, and we can gang both SKUs on one run to reduce setup cost.
