What the big 3PLs actually sell
ShipBob and ShipMonk are fulfillment platforms: software, warehouses, negotiated carrier rates and per-order pick-pack. They are genuinely good at moving your product to your customer. Neither manufactures packaging — they store and assemble whatever boxes you supply. The packaging decision stays yours, and a bad one taxes every order they ship for you.
How they differ, honestly
- ShipBob — larger network, stronger software and analytics; minimums and fees suit brands past launch
- ShipMonk — strong for subscription and kitted orders; inventory tooling aimed at smaller catalogues
- Both charge storage per pallet — oversized boxes are a monthly tax
- Both assemble faster with one-piece mailers and pre-fitted inserts than taped RSCs
- Neither will fix a dieline that does not fit your product
Where a packaging manufacturer fits
The working stack is: a manufacturer engineers and prints the box to your product and carrier; a 3PL stores it and ships your orders in it. We deliver to ShipBob, ShipMonk or any 3PL dock nationwide, to their receiving spec, with freight on the quote. The two decisions — who prints and who ships — are separate, and both should be made deliberately.
