Cheap boxes vs affordable boxes
A cheap box is under-specified: thin board where strength was needed, no proof process, a supplier with no accountability when the run is wrong. An affordable box is right-sized and smartly specified — every dollar spent doing a job, none spent on decoration. Small businesses should be shopping for the second, and the difference is where the cuts are made.
The five legitimate cuts
- One or two print colours instead of full CMYK coverage
- Kraft board instead of bleached white
- Digital printing under 750 units — no plate costs
- A plain inner with a printed sleeve — the premium look at carton cost
- Gang multiple SKUs on one run to share setup
The three cuts that cost more
Cutting board caliper below the product’s weight class — damage rates erase the saving. Skipping the proof process — a misprint run costs double. And buying “cheap” from a supplier with no tooling storage — every reorder pays setup again. We will always tell you which cuts are safe for your product and which are a false economy.
