Two parts, one impression
A sleeve box is a printed band that slides over a plain tray, tube or inner carton. The customer slides the sleeve off — a two-part reveal that reads as premium — while the inner stays an unprinted, inexpensive component. It is the format that delivers most of a rigid box’s theatre at close to a folding carton’s price.
Where sleeves win
- Multi-packs and variety sets — one sleeve over a tray of individual units
- Candle and cosmetic refills — the kept vessel, the replaced sleeve
- Tea, coffee and chocolate — a band that upgrades a plain inner
- Limited editions — reprint the sleeve, keep the inner, refresh the line cheaply
- Retail shelf — a tall sleeve facing maximises presence at minimal board
The friction to design out
Sleeves have two failure modes: a fit so tight it scuffs the inner on every slide, and so loose it slides off in transit. The spec is a deliberate 1–2mm clearance engineered into the dieline, with the inner specified at the same time — sleeve and inner are one system, not two orders. We quote them together so the fit is right on the first run.
