The wall is only the start
A rigid box’s structure is chipboard — but the customer never touches chipboard. They touch the wrap, see the print, feel the closure and meet the insert. The material specification of a rigid box is really four choices: the board caliper, the wrap paper, the insert and the finishing. Each one moves the feel and the price.
The four choices
- Caliper — 1.2mm for light luxury, 2mm standard, 3mm for heavy or heirloom formats
- Wrap — printed art paper, textured linen, soft-touch coating or specialty wraps
- Insert — EVA foam with velvet lining for jewelry, moulded pulp for a recyclable option
- Finishing — foil, embossing and spot UV applied to the wrap, not the board
Matching materials to the price point
A $40 candle does not need a 3mm heirloom wall and a velvet-lined insert — it needs 1.2mm, a clean wrap and a pulp insert. A $900 watch deserves everything on the list. We specify rigid materials against the product’s real price point, because over-specifying wastes margin and under-specifying undermines the price you are asking for.
